The first one to plead his cause seems right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him. Casting lots causes contentions to cease, And keeps the mighty apart." Proverbs 18:17, 18 (NKJV)
Disputes among human beings is old as history itself. Outsiders have been helping settle disputes just as long. Proverbs 18:17, 18 suggests that an outsider will be non partial and clearly see another point of view. That outsider of course, must seek God (casting lots was a way of determining God's will.)

Church Mediation
Church Intervention. Conflict in
the church will suck the life
right out of your ministry and
fellowship. Before the pastor is
fired or the church splits,
consider outside help.
Christian Mediation/Arbitration
Instead of court settlements,
Christian mediation is less
costly than a lawsuit, focuses
on pleasing God and preserving
the relationship. 1Corinthians
